I awoke this morning to the wonderful sounds of prey in my mud trap. Ok it's my front
yard but it serves the same purpose :D
Knowing that the ups guy was to deliver my new alarm system for my F250 I just knew that
he was stuck in the muck from the rains of last night that were still pouring down.
Then I noticed the sounds were different this time. I could clearly hear the noise of
tires whirling in mud then a pause and a loud beep, beep, beep then more whirling. Hmm
this was new.
Well after looking out the window and peering thru the pouring rain I could make out my
prey snagged deep in the front yard. Buried up to his rear axle. But this thing wasn't the
ups guy for sure. This thing was HUGE. I felt like a deer hunter that snagged a dinosaur !
I went out the front door to get a better look at the prey slinging mud fore and aft and
it was a big one for sure.
Apparently the power company was looking for a downed line and had the bright idea of
bringing a bucket truck into my yard. I waved for them to calm down and stop digging up my
yard further and went around to crank up the powerstroke. After snaking down to the front
of the house I snapped a pic of the truck still struggling after telling them to wait.
I wanted to film the pull but the power company guys were freaking out at the idea of
video evidence of them being stuck. I guess they were worried I was going to sue them for
tearing up my driveway or maybe they weren't supposed to go up drives when it rained, who
knows.
The guy didn't think the little ford could pull his rig out. I told him I wasn't
responsible for his bumper, frame or anything else that might come off :D
After hooking up to a huge tow strap the driver produced from somewhere I put my F250 in
4low and eased the slack out. It spun at first for about 5 seconds as the front tires dug
down thru the mud and then it BIT and stopped all spinning. I dragged that huge bucket
truck thru the muck, up the hill and around the house. I was stoked, I couldn't even tell
that huge truck was back there. I later learned from my son that the power company guy had
the brakes on right after I had pulled him out of the worse part. So for about 100 yards I
was dragging him with him trying to stop.
After getting to the top of the hill behind my house where its one big rock and I knew he
wouldn't sink while parked I got out and unhooked his cable. Thats when he told me that
the truck he was in weighed over 17,000 lbs empty and with the stuff they had loaded that
day was probably pushing a bunch more than that. He couldn't believe my little powerstroke
drug his truck like that :D
I asked him what motor he had in his truck and he said it was a cat he thought be he
wasn't sure and proceeded to pop his hood, one of those deals that opens forward. One huge
cat diesel in that thing.
This is some better shots of it as they were leaving.
Besides fun of dragging something that large out though they also asked if I would be at
home in case they needed me to tow them out again later, apparently the dodge mega cab
that the their foreman has wont pull the bucket trucks out !! Oh yes folks, life is good
:D
